The Friends of the Allen Public Library is an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, dedicated to supporting the Allen Public Library by providing funds and programs that would not otherwise be possible.

Please join us!

Over 11 years ago, ALLen Reads established its One Book Program and has generated a lot of excitement throughout the Allen community by bringing authors/illustrators of Marley and Me, Seedfolks, Cellist of Sarajevo, Rocket Boys, The Hound of the Baskervilles, A Nest for Celeste, Big Fish, Orphan Train, Texas Eats, and brown girl dreaming. 2018 was no exception when we brought Kimberly Brubaker Bradley to the Allen Library Auditorium to discuss her book The War That Saved My Life. She was delighted to see such an enthusiastic crowd which was made up of people of all ages and was willing to sign books along with anything else she could autograph just so that she could meet every person in line!

The Allen community has benefited from reading some great books with an opportunity to meet fabulous authors, had thought-provoking discussions and attended a variety of local programs!

Our one book program is under the leadership of the Friends of the Allen Public Library. It is unique in one-book programs in that related books are chosen as “companions” to the main book to promote families and all generations reading and talking together.

The ALLen READs book for 2019 is The Boy Who Harnessed the Wind by William Kamkwamba and Bryan Mealer. Join us on October 19th when journalist Bryan Mealer shares his account of helping to bring William’s story to life.
